1. DesertPy Conda Environment Update - desertpy-2017-v1

    For those who want to follow along with my upcoming pyglet presentation you can install my updated desertpy conda environment on macOS with the following commands:

    conda env create godber/desertpy-2017-v1
source activate desertpy-2017-v1

    There may be additional updates to the environment, but I will increment the version counter.

    Update

    Within 6 hours of my creating the desertpy-2017-v1 conda environment the pyglet library did its first release in over two years, go figure. The new version has improved Python 3 support. You can read more in the Pyglet RELEASE_NOTES.txt.

    Of course this means that I had to create a new conda environment with the new version. So, here you go, desertpy-2017-v2 contains v1.3.0 of pyglet:

    conda env create godber/desertpy-2017-v2
source activate desertpy-2017-v2

  2. Summer 2015 Roundup

    Those of you following this DesertPy website might have mistakenly thought the group had gone dormant during the summer, but nothing could be further from the truth! I've merely been a lazy web master. With help from many members, the group hosted a full day Data Science Workshop in May, we've continued typical monthly meetings, and we started holding regular monthly group coding meetings.

    It's also worth noting that DesertPy has recently passed the 500 user milestone on Meetup.

  5. PyCon Startup Row Pitch Event at Techweek LA

  7. October 2014 Meeting - PyPy

    What

    Tim will lead a brief discussion of PyPy, a Python interpreter implemented in Python, followed by a longer discussion of the RPython toolchain which makes this implementation not only possible, but faster than the standard C-Python interpreter. The discussion of RPython will be illustrated using a simple interpreter implemented in Python, which is then translated to native code using the RPython toolchain.

    Also, there will be Mandelbrot sets.

    Who
    Tim has been using Python since way back at Python 0.9.3. He uses Python primarily to process and display numerical data and is very interested in ways of coaxing as much performance as possible from Python and its various numerical extensions.

  8. September 2014 Meeting Follow Up

    We had another great meeting in September that I didn't have a chance to announce on this website. Dr. Sarah Braden gave an introductory talk on Machine Learning with Python. We had a great turn out which included at least a half dozen new members. Erik shared a relevant link to the scikit-learn algorithm cheat-sheet on the DesertPy Sub-Reddit.

    Also, I'd like to thank Isos Technology for being such a generous host again.
