    Ever want to mess around with network packets but the thought of writing a kernel module or figuring out tcpdump seem too daunting? Now you can! And from the comfort of everyone's favorite language! Using Python, we can take packet inspection, logging, and firewalling to a new level that's not easily possible with existing tooling.

    Erik Stephens from Orvant will walk through the steps needed to get started inspecting packets from the Linux kernel the Python way. He'll point out some pitfalls to avoid along the way. He will also dive into a simple, but useful utility to help you report and block traffic from specific Linux programs.

  9. Old Presentations Added

    We now have the old presentations uploaded to the DesertPy Presentations Page on the website. This includes Trevor's Mongo presentation, Jerry's RaspberryPi presentation, and my virtualenv and fabric presentations. These presentations, and the source, for some of them are also available on github: https://github.com/desertpy/presentations

    This reminds me of the licensing issues we are overlooking while using github. Github is only free for open source, and it is completely my intent to share all of our website and presentation materials under a permissive open source license. I am partial to the three clause MIT/BSD style licenses and that's the route we'll probably follow. We will also need to make sure we get contributors to agree as well. We will formalize this down the road.

  10. DesertPy - The Phoenix Area Python User Community

    Welcome to the DesertPy website. This is the online home of Phoenix area Python users. In an effort to bring together Phoenix area Pythonistas the group maintains several online resources including the DesertPy Meetup Group, @desertpy on twitter, DesertPy on Github, the DesertPy Google+ Community, and a Google groups mail list.

    For now, the DesertPy Github group contains the source for this website, sources for some of the presentations given at group meetings, as well as providing hosting for both the statically generated website and presentations using Github Pages

    If you're in Phoenix, or visit Phoenix, and interested in Python, come check us out!
